My blog is on holiday today
The blog is on holiday today (Easter Monday) and will return with Part 3 (and final) of my response to a German critic tomorrow (Tuesday, April 3, 2018). I have been travelling a lot today and decided to spend the rest of the free time on some writing and other things. You might want to spend your free time today playing the new Google – Where’s Wally? – game, which has some really nice drawings available. Go to Google maps and test yourself out. Music accompaniment if you click on …
Music I listened to while travelling today …
London-based – John Ogetti Kpiaye – is one of my favourite guitar players.
His father was Nigerian and his mother English and he left school at aged 15 to begin life as a welder.
He started playing guitar professionally in 1967 with ‘The Cats’ and then did session and backup work for a string of reggae solo artists including Dandy Livingstone, Owen Gray and Winston Groovy.
In the mid-1970s he was a leading producer of the popular reggae derivative ‘Lovers Rock’.
By the end of that decade he was working as a session player with Dennis Brown, Dennis Bovell and reggae poet Linton Kwesi Johnson.
The Dennis Bovell Dub Band was LKJ’s backing band.
His first solo album wasn’t released until 1997 – Red, Gold and Blues (LKJ Records) – one of the classics and one of my favourites.
This is the title track from that album.
Very controlled and subtle.
That is enough for today!
