Bill Mitchell is a Professor in Economics and Director of the Centre of Full Employment and Equity (CofFEE), at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

He is also a professional musician and plays guitar with the Melbourne Reggae-Dub band – Pressure Drop. The band was popular around the live music scene in Melbourne in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The band reformed in late 2010.

Political leanings

The Political Compass is an on-line tool to assess where one sits in a four-quadrant space demarcated by a north-south axis moving from Authoritarianism (Fascism) to the north and Libertarianism (Anarchy) to the south.

On the East-West axis we move from Left (Collectivism/Communism) to Right (Neoliberalism).

Maximum/Minimum scores range from +10 to -10 on both axes.

Note: for some questions I have to fudge the answer because, for example, they ask whether taxpayers should fund arts and museums etc. Of course, taxpayers do not fund anything but I understand the intent of the question.

The following graphs record my scores at intermittent intervals.

The variations (small) are because the questions change a little and vary the propensity to take extreme options out of the two either side of the ‘fence’ on the economics (Left-Right) axis.
