The Smith Family MMT Manga is back – Episode 1 for Season 3 is now available
It’s back. Season 3 of the – The Smith Family and their Adventures with Money – produced by MMTed begins today (June 20, 2025) and will run for the next 12 months, with episodes updated every month. The recession has deepened and the government is in chaos, with its chief advisor Professor Raul Noitawl insisting that more austerity is required to bring down the ‘debt mountain’. Ryan has now been unemployed for months and in desperation has reviewed his world view with shocking results. And to make matters worse, a major sovereign ratings agency downgrades the government debt from A to the lowest rating C. A lot of misinformation follows but sharp as a tack journo Mary Winter knows the reality and confronts the Prime Minister with the evidence. More shocking developments will unfold as the season continues.
The Smith Family is a middle-class family living in a city somewhere in the world. The second-generation parents are university educated and have professional occupations. Their two kids attend the local public school.
Episode 1 in the new season opens with Ryan busy at work building his new WWW site.
When his brother Aaron sees what Ryan is up to he flips out.
A shock for Elizabeth and the kids is coming.
The scene shifts to the Smith home, and the Robert Autumn is hosting a special edition of the Finance Show on the Turdoch Media Channel and his guest, Professor Raul Noitawl is discussing the decision by Degen Ratings Agency to downgrade the government’s debt from A to C.
Noitawl runs to form and demand more austerity.
Elizabeth freaks out about that channel being switched on (it was Ryan’s favourite) and Kevin explains that he was watching sport on it and the special show suddenly came on.
They switch over to the progressive network and find sharp journo Mary Summer interviewing the Prime Minister about the downgrade.
The PM gives all the usual explanations – how bad the downgrade is and how they are now at increased risk of running out of money.
Mary knows better and doesn’t let the politician get away with those fictions.
The interview is an embarrassment for the PM who is soon to go to an election and is deeply unpopular as a result of the mass unemployment his government has created.
Kevin and Elizabeth discuss the interview and work out their position.
Even 10-year old Emma can understand that the government can never run out of its own currency.
Then Kevin receives an SMS from one of his mates urging him to check out a WWW site that has just gone up.
The family is shocked by what they discover.
If you have any feedback we will appreciate it, other than ‘this sucks’.
The manga is available in both English and Japanese.
If you want to catch up with what happened in Seasons 1 and 2 then there is also a RECAP available, which summarises the developments.
That is enough for today!
