Humbug!’ to Christmas Presents – that says a lot about how my profession struggles to appreciate reality in all its dimensions. Every year, it…
Blog lay day
I have been doing the final edits on my euro-zone book all day today. The final stages are always a slog and I am ready to move on. But I have had some great music to keep me company. Read more if you want to swing a bit on a late Friday afternoon.
This birdland-inspired piece Get a Move On by DJ Mr Scruff, was recorded in 1999 on his Keep It Unreal album. He has recently released a new version, which is just a heavily-sampled version of this better original release. Both swing though.
But if you really want the inspiration for it, then you should know that the music is sampled Moondog, a quirky performer from the 1960s. The song in question is Bird’s Lament (In Memory of Charlie Parker) from his 1969 album Moondog (I have still got the original record!).
I hope you like this. I am currently re-learning tenor saxophone and it is fun trying to play phrases that the great Bird would reel out effortlessly.
And the vocals on Mr Scruff’s sampled track are from another fabulous musician, blues guitar legend T-Bone Walker and his song Hypin’ Woman Blues.
This is excellent too!
Back to my editing.
