The Smith Family MMT Manga – Episode 3 for Season 3 is now available

Episode 3 in the third season of our Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) manga – The Smith Family and their Adventures with Money – produced by MMTed is now available (August 29, 2025).

The Smith Family is a middle-class family living in a city somewhere in the world. The second-generation parents are university educated and have professional occupations. Their two kids attend the local public school.

A long recession brought about by fiscal austerity has fractured the family with Ryan out of work and out of the home, caught up in a vicious cycle of gambling and drinking.

But the cognitive dissonance between his reality and his long-held conservative economic beliefs has finally caught up with him and he is now an MMT activist, which seems to be as annoying as his conservative vehemence to those around him.

Episode 3 opens with Kevin making a discovery that leaves him heartbroken and aimless.

All the other school kids knew the reality but Kevin was oblivious and comes crashing down to ground with a thud.

Not the nest time to be confronted by his father who is trying to win Elizabeth’s heart back again.

Ryan turns up with his self-proclaimed Job Guarantee plan which just goes to show he has been reading up some of the Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) literature as he searches for meaning away from the mainstream nonsense that his former hero, Professor Raul Noitawl pumps out on the finance TV show every morning.

But there is something lacking in Ryan’s comprehension and Kevin is not in the mood for fools.

Sparks fly and we learn some more about the Job Guarantee idea.
